A man was arrested after police said he was found sleeping on the Broward College Coconut Creek campus with a knife in his possession while classes were in session.
Johnathan Daniel Bautista, 30, of Pompano Beach, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a Coconut Creek Police detective was conducting routine work at Broward College, located at 1000 Coconut Creek Boulevard, when he was alerted to a man sleeping in a breezeway near Building 41 on the north side of campus.
The incident occurred on August 8 at approximately 10:18 a.m. while the campus was open and classes were actively in session. Records show Baustista was recently relocated after failing to appear in court.
Police say Bautista was found asleep in a doorway and smelled like marijuana. During a search, officers located a four-inch black-handled knife that was not foldable and featured a dagger-style hooked blade.
Records show that Broward College classes were not interrupted and that no injuries or incidents were reported.
Bautista was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
