Senior Night brought plenty of emotion and excitement to Coconut Creek High School as postseason brackets were officially released.
The Coconut Creek boys basketball team delivered a thriller, pulling out a 76–70 overtime win to earn its eighth victory of the season. Seniors Warren Noel, Jonathan Choute, and Ijah Chin were honored prior to tipoff.
They will open postseason play against Northeast High School, which finished 8–16 but defeated Coconut Creek 63–51 in the teams’ only meeting this season. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Atlantic High School, while Dr. Joaquin Garcia and Blanche Ely High School will meet in the other semifinal after both earned first-round byes.
On the girls’ side, Marjory Stoneman Douglas spoiled Senior Night with a 42–27 win over Coconut Creek. Courtney Collins was recognized as the Cougars’ lone senior. Ma’klyah Menard led Coconut Creek with 11 points, while Arial Johnson added nine.
The Coconut Creek Cougars bounced back to earn their eighth win of the season with a 39–37 victory over Calvary Christian Academy, as Menard and Jackson combined for 21 points.
Coconut Creek then closed the regular season with a loss to McArthur High School.
Coconut Creek finishes 9–7 and will receive a first-round bye in the District Tournament before facing Northeast High School in the semifinals. The Hurricanes enter at 11–10 and dominated the Cougars earlier this season, winning 78–26.
Blanche Ely High School is the top seed and will face either Dr. Joaquin Garcia or Atlantic High School in the semifinals.
The Monarch High School boys team played three games during the final week of the regular season, opening with a 43–35 win over Boca Raton Community High School. The Knights honored seniors Nikole Campbell, Eric Hammond, Steven Strong, and Camilo Tovar as the team prepares to enter the District Tournament as the No. 7 seed.
The Knights will face Boyd H. Anderson High School, which carries a 14–8 record. The winner will advance to play either Deerfield Beach or Coral Springs High School.
St. Thomas Aquinas High School is the top seed and will receive a bye before facing either South Plantation or Fort Lauderdale High School.
The Monarch High School girls’ team wrapped up the regular season with a 47–31 loss to Pompano Beach High School, marking the final home game of the year.
The North Broward Prep boys team, ranked No. 4 in the state, finished the regular season 23–2. The Eagles opened the year with a 15-game winning streak before suffering their first loss to IMG Academy, then won eight consecutive games before a season-ending loss to Segment Prep.
North Broward Prep is seeded second in the District Tournament and will face Saint Andrew’s School in the semifinals. The teams met on January 24, with the Eagles earning a 56–52 victory. The other side of the bracket features top-ranked Calvary Christian Academy, the No. 1 team in Florida and No. 2 in the nation, which will face the winner of FAU High School and Coral Springs High School.
The North Broward Prep girls team closed the regular season with a 55–36 Senior Night win, honoring Phallon Evans and Olivia Damois to improve to 14–6 on the season.
The Eagles are the No. 2 seed in the District Tournament and will face Calvary Christian Academy in the semifinals. Calvary enters with a 6–9 record and defeated North Broward Prep 59–14 in the teams’ first meeting. Saint Andrew’s School is the top seed and will face FAU High School in the other semifinal.
