Edward McCall {BSO}
A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting another patron at Duffy’s Sports Grill, leaving the victim unconscious and hospitalized.
According to a Coconut Creek Police Department incident report, on March 7, officers responded to a call from an employee at the sports bar at 4800 West Hillsboro Boulevard.
Before their arrival, witnesses who called 911 told dispatch that a victim had been punched unconscious and the suspect, later identified as Edward McCall, 49, of Pompano Beach, had fled the scene in a silver Lexus.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground in visible distress. Witnesses reported that the victim had just regained consciousness but was unable to move, screaming in pain from what appeared to be a severe back injury.
The victim required medical assistance and was transported to HCA Northwest Hospital by emergency responders.
The report indicates that surveillance footage obtained from Duffy’s Sports Grill showed the victim leaning against the bar when he was unexpectedly shoved backward by McFall. The victim was thrown into a concrete bar island before collapsing to the ground.
Officers located McFall’s vehicle at a residence near the 5000 block of Northwest 76th Place, where he was detained. McFall admitted to being at Duffy’s and shoving the victim.
A witness, drinking at the bar alongside both men, told officers McFall approached the victim, declared, “I am stronger than you,” then balled his fists and struck the victim in the chest, sending him crashing into the bar island.
While in custody, McFall attempted to downplay the incident, claiming the push was meant as a joke and that “people from other countries are usually more aggressive” and could “handle it.” Officers noted in the report that the victim is from Poland.
McFall was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. He was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. McFall was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
