A pair of high school football teams in Coconut Creek recorded wins during the fourth week of the football season.
Coconut Creek High School remained perfect following a dominant 34-7 win over Deerfield Beach High School. The Cougars are 4-0 for the first time since 2004, a season in which they finished 8-3. They will play Cardinal Gibbons High School in their next game on Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. These teams met last year, with Cardinal Gibbons winning a tight game 27-25.
Monarch High School had its most impressive win this season, beating Seminole High School 34-20 on Friday night. The Seminoles came in as the 40th-ranked team in the state, as the two teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. However, they would lead 14-13 at halftime following a Florentino Lopez rushing touchdown and passing score to Jabari Brady.
The Knights went on to score two touchdowns in the third quarter and one in the fourth, with Lopez throwing another pass to Brady for six. Jordan Pyfrom had a 60-yard fumble recovery touchdown, and Jaboree Riggins also caught a receiving touchdown.
Monarch will play Fort Lauderdale High School in their next game on Thursday, September 18, at 7 p.m. The Flying L’s had their win come against Boyd H. Anderson High School, but lost 42-8 in their meeting with the Knights last season.
