The City of Coconut Creek honored a group of law enforcement personnel and first responders during the February 26 meeting.
Officers Sidney Ballestros and Dondrell Luberice were singled out for recognition as they received the Police Department’s Lifesaving Commendation Award for their efforts in saving a woman who ingested fentanyl and was found unconscious and not breathing for ten minutes.
The officers’ quick actions made a crucial difference. On December 25, Ballestros and Luberice observed the patient lying face up on the floor in her bedroom. They moved the patient to an open space where Luberice continued CPR and Ballestros administered two doses of Nalaxone Narcan. A heartbeat was detected, and Fire Rescue transported the woman to the hospital, where she was treated and released, according to Scotty Leamon, Public Information Officer for the Coconut Creek Police Department.
The department also recognized Officer Alexander Lukianov as Officer of the Year. He was recognized for his performance and professional growth during 2025, along with his exceptional dedication. Notably, he increased his total arrests by 300 percent and made ten DUI arrests in late 2025. In addition, he was recognized for producing well-written, timely reports that supported prosecutions, according to Leamon.
Recognition extended further within the department as Cheri Stabile was named Detective of the Year for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In 2025, she wrote 120 subpoenas, which led to 27 search warrants and seven arrests, according to Leamon.
