According to a Coconut Creek Police Department arrest report, Leonard Levon J. Williams, 37, was arrested on July 7 at his home located near the 2400 block of Northwest 49th Terrace following an investigation into a domestic violence 911 call.
Police said the victim told officers she was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle while Williams was in the driver’s seat. During what police described as a heated verbal argument, the victim allegedly threatened to call law enforcement in an attempt to calm Williams down.
According to the report, Williams then turned around, reached into the rear passenger area, and grabbed the victim by the neck with both hands. After briefly letting go, Williams allegedly grabbed her neck a second time with greater force before striking her in the face with a closed fist.
The alleged blow caused the victim’s nose to bleed, swelling to her face, and visible injuries, police said. Officers reported observing swelling and bleeding from her face, along with scratches on her neck.
The couple’s child was restrained in a rear seat throughout the incident and was not struck or injured, according to the affidavit.
Police said the victim later attempted to call 911 from her cellphone, but Williams took the phone from her before he fled the area on foot before officers arrived.
Investigators later located Williams in the 4800 block of West Copans Road. When officers asked him to identify himself, Williams allegedly provided the false name “Dan” in an attempt to hinder the investigation. Officers later confirmed his identity, police said.
Williams was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting an $8,000 bond.
