Walmart shoppers at 5571 West Hillsboro Boulevard will soon see a larger store.
At the August 27 meeting, the commission passed a resolution approving the site plan for the 5,932-square-foot addition to the existing Walmart store on the northeast corner of the building.
This expansion will house operations and storage for the online pickup program, allowing customers to pick up items without entering the store.
For pickup parking, five additional spaces will be dedicated to Walmart online pickup and delivery operations, for a total of 31 pickup spaces.
Other improvements in the pickup area include a new sidewalk, curbing, and modified striping of pickup spaces and crosswalks.
Existing spaces will be designated as pickup parking only, according to Jacquie Pedevillano of Bowman Consulting, on behalf of Walmart.
The addition will provide easier access to shopping for customers with accessibility issues. Other work will include restriping pavement markings, updating pedestrian traffic, and adding signage throughout Walmart’s existing parking lot and property, according to Pedevillano.
