Progress is moving forward on Coconut Creek’s new fire station.
During the August 28 meeting, the commission approved a resolution to execute an agreement with Currie Sowards Aguila Architects, Inc. for design services for a new Fire Station #113 and Fire Administration Building. The station currently operates out of a temporary trailer located just south of Wiles Road and east of State Road 7.
The firm and its consultants will provide architectural and engineering services related to a 25,000-square-foot, two-story, four-bay fire station with a fire administration and data center for Coconut Creek. Completion of the design is anticipated to take eighteen months, according to city information.
A two-story fire training tower component, incorporated into the stairwell, will be part of the scope of work, which is yet to be determined. This fire training tower will not be a burn tower, but will focus solely on smoke, hose, and ladder training. The site is located east of Cullum Road and Banks Road, within the city’s Mainstreet development area. The building will be designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding development, according to city information.
The site design will incorporate a special plaza of placemaking, featuring elements such as a 911 tribute, landscape, hardscape, site furnishings, lighting, and artwork. The building will be constructed to withstand a category five hurricane, according to city information.
Mayor Jackie Railey said the city has been eagerly awaiting the new Fire Station #113 and is pleased that work is finally beginning on the project. The design phase is estimated to cost approximately $1.65 million.
The Coconut Creek government has not determined the full cost of the station #113 project.
Commissioner Sandra Welch said she was excited that the new fire station project is about to get underway.
