Commission Approves Millage Rate and Budget on First Reading

Coconut Creek Prepares for Major Police Headquarters Expansion, Hurricane-Resilient Upgrades

Coconut Creek homeowners will not see an increase in the city’s property tax rate next year, though some may pay more because of rising property values.

During a special meeting Sept. 14, the Coconut Creek Commission gave initial approval to an operating tax rate of 6.8988 mills for fiscal year 2027. One mill equals $1 in taxes for every $1,000 of assessed property value.

Although the rate would remain unchanged, homeowners whose assessed property values have increased may receive higher tax bills, according to City Manager Sheila Rose.

Commissioners also approved the city’s fiscal year 2027 operating and capital improvement budget on first reading. The budget allocates funding for city departments and capital projects from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027.

The commission also approved resolutions related to funding fire rescue services and collecting and disposing of solid waste and recycling.

While commissioners held little discussion during the meeting, Rose said city officials and staff had spent many hours developing the budget through previous workshops and meetings.

The commission is scheduled to consider final approval of the millage rate and budget during a meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 in the City Hall commission chambers.
