The Toyota dealership in Coconut Creek has received approvals for a major expansion and the construction of a new four-tier garage.
During the April 9 meeting, the commission passed on first reading an ordinance approving a rezoning request by Coconut Creek Automotive Management from regional shopping to the Planned MainStreet Development District (PMDD) for Al Henrickson Toyota. According to city information, the property is generally located at 5201 West Sample Road.
The rezoning request is consistent with the city’s effective comprehensive plan and future land use map, and the property owner has met the requirements of the MainStreet design standards, according to city information.
The commission also passed an ordinance to adopt the list of permitted and special land uses for the Al Hendrickson Toyota PMDD. This includes an automobile dealership and auto repair activities, according to city information.
Al Hendrickson is building a new entrance and improving the service department. “By having a new garage, Toyota will be able to keep more cars on site and in the shade, and it will look nicer, and it will be more aesthetically pleasing,” said Mayor Jeffrey Wasserman.
“This will allow the dealership to build a new garage to house cars and free up space so more cars can be displayed in the showrooms. I am very impressed with what Toyota is planning to build,” said commissioner Jackie Railey.
Vice Mayor John Brodie said he is looking forward to the expanded Toyota dealership next to the upcoming MainStreet development.
