The Friendship Journey hopes that works of art made with love will bring a smile to the faces of students and community organizations next month.
On Saturday, February 1, The Friendship Journey, which fosters a compassionate community where everyone belongs, will partner with the City of Coconut Creek and HandsOn South Florida to host a Day of Service at the Coconut Creek Recreation Complex.
Over 30 volunteers, including teens and young adults of all abilities, will come together to honor and celebrate the lives of those who have left a lasting mark on the Parkland community.
The event will be held in Jaime’s Room, renamed in honor of Jaime Guttenberg, a student volunteer with The Friendship Journey who loved to dance and give back to her community, said Samantha Novick, president of The Friendship Journey.
Guttenberg was one of the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre.
Through meaningful acts of love and creativity—such as making bookmarks, inspirational bracelets, sensory toys, kindness rocks, and planting seeds—participants will create items to be donated to schools and community organizations in northwestern Broward County.
“This special event is a reflection of unity, compassion, and the enduring spirit of goodness in the community,” Novick said.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon at 4455 Sol Press Blvd in Coconut Creek.
The cost is free for those registered with the Friendship Journey, and those attending should wear orange, comfortable shorts and leggings. Close-toed shoes are required. You must also be at least 12 to participate in the event.
