Making a real difference in their community is not just talk to the coordinators of local pop-up kids consignment event Just Between Friends, nor to Coral Springs area families still recovering from the tragic events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Patti Maibauer and Janis Jeffus, owners of the huge semiannual children’s and maternity consignment sale staring Wednesday through Sunday at the Coral Springs Gym, have announced their Pay it Forward Program. The program will take cash donations from their consignors and shoppers to provide shopping sprees to local families this Sunday, April 15th.
Additionally, Just Between Friends will continue to give a percentage of sales to local schools that have signed up for their school fundraiser program. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will be joining Coral Springs Middle School, Country Hills, Eagle Ridge, and Westchester Elementary Schools and several others who will be the beneficiaries of these donations.
“We don’t normally have high schools participating, but this is our community, and we felt called to do even more than we’ve ever done before,” said Janis Jeffus, co-coordinator of the Coral Springs event. “Their team reached out to Broward County Schools to find the families who will be participating in the Pay it Forward Program.”
Patti Maibauer, who co-coordinates the sale with her mother, Janis said that their consignors, or sellers, have always donated thousands of items to their partner charities: Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center’s TOPWA program (Targeted Outreach for Pregnant Women Act), Broward Schools Harvest Drive, and more.
“This is us providing a way for them to contribute very close to home,” she said.
Just Between Friends provides a fun, convenient and well-organized event that is eagerly anticipated by thousands of South Florida area families. The semi-annual event runs Thursday, April 12 through Sunday, April 15 at the Coral Springs Gymnasium. Consignors are local families, bringing their gently used and new items to sell at 50-90 percent off retail, filling up the entire Coral Springs Gym. Shoppers can expect to find things like baby equipment, outdoor playground toys, shoes and clothing (kids, teens and maternity), books, games, DVDs, children’s furniture, and pretty much anything else that has to do with raising children.
“Helping others recycle their family’s gently-used items is such a rewarding way to meet and network with bargain-savvy moms in our community,” said Maibauer. “We have so much fun helping others that it’s almost like a family reunion instead of a huge community sale.”
