Coconut Creek police say a SWAT raid at Legacy Apartments involved a flash grenade before officers found cocaine, fentanyl and phones in a toilet.
According to a Coconut Creek Police Department arrest report, Gedarious Antwan Geffrard, 31, was arrested August 19 at an apartment in the Legacy Apartment Complex at 4201 West Atlantic Boulevard.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Coconut Creek Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team, assisted by SWAT officers, arrived at the apartment to execute a residential search warrant.
Police said SWAT officers knocked and announced themselves twice but received no response. Officers then breached the front door and made a third announcement ordering anyone inside to come out, according to the affidavit.
Police said there was still no answer, prompting officers to deploy a noise-flash diversionary device outside the master bedroom.
Geffrard then exited the bedroom and was detained, police said.
Once inside, investigators said they found water running in both the shower and sink of the master bathroom.
Police said yellow plastic baggies containing powdery residue were inside the sink, along with what officers described as a blue powdery substance near the drain. Additional yellow and clear baggies containing powder residue were allegedly scattered throughout the bathroom.
Officers also reported finding four cellphones submerged in toilet water.
During a search of the apartment, detectives reported recovering Delta-9 THC cannabis and cocaine. Baggies spread throughout the home tested positive for fentanyl, according to the affidavit.
Investigators also reported finding cash and three ledgers that police said documented drug sales.
According to detectives, three juveniles lived at the apartment, and the suspected narcotics and residue were readily accessible to them.
Geffrard was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
