Monarch High School is gearing up for a Homecoming Week, set to take place from October 6–10, that’s jam-packed with activities featuring a lineup of events designed to bring students and the community together under the theme “Knight in the City Stars.”
Monarch High School homecoming week kicks off Monday, October 6, with a quiet day of preparation before events begin in earnest. On Tuesday, October 7, Monarch will hold its first-ever community parade from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by the traditional Powderpuff game from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The celebrations resume on Thursday, October 9, with a Pep Rally during fourth period, a tailgate from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and the highly anticipated Homecoming Game at 7:00 p.m.
The week concludes Friday, October 10, with the Homecoming Dance, featuring interactive activities and decorations bringing the school’s theme to life in the cafeteria.
Julie Solinsky, Student Government Advisor, tells Coconut Creek Talk this year’s Homecoming is unlike any other. “This year’s homecoming is unique because of the fresh combinations of ideas our student body created. We are pioneering a local parade for the school, in addition to our traditional homecoming event, which includes powderpuff, tailgate, and pep rally. The dance itself will also include decorations and interactive activities not seen within the walls of Monarch High School,” Solinsky said.
Solinsky also says student involvement has been central to the planning, and the week wouldn’t have been possible to plan, much less coordinate and pull off, if not for the students themselves.
“Students have built these events, bringing the title of student leader to fruition. Students outside of the student government have also given active input into how to make these activities as fun as possible—mixing tradition with student innovation. Through our Inter Club Council, students have had the opportunity to become involved in each activity through our school clubs and their voices be heard,” Solinsky explained.
The Student Government Association and Inter-Club Council played significant roles in planning, alongside project chairs Lionel Valentin, Clayton James, Hillary Richard, Nevaeh Villa, Kristopfer Doell, Carlton Rawlings, Drew Weaver, and Brielle Finch.
In the end, the goal is for the entire Monarch family to leave Homecoming Week with more than just memories of spirited events.
We hope to celebrate our accomplishments as a school and have taken away a newfound work ethic, respect for others, and love for each other and our community,” Solinsky said.
