Scott Beigel Memorial Fund Sending At-Risk Florida Kids to Sleepaway Camp in 2023

Scott Beigel’s legacy is now helping at-risk children in Florida attend camp.

This week, the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund announced that in the summer of 2023, the Fund would provide grants to send underserved children from Florida to summer sleep-away camps.

According to the organization, this is a direct result of the generosity of its partners, donors, and supporters.

In 2022, the Fund gave out grants totaling $283,600, sending 212 children to summer sleep-away camps in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

On February 14, 2018, Beigel was killed outside his classroom door while holding it open for fleeing students during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school massacre. He was one of three coaches and 14 students.

Shortly after, the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund was established to continue his legacy by nurturing, protecting, and educating children, starting them on a positive path and giving them hope.

According to founder Linda Beigel Schulman, enabling at-risk, underserved children to experience the joys and wonders of summer sleep-away camp is life-changing.

“It costs $1,500 to send one child to summer sleep-away camp for two weeks, and the children can participate in activities they have only dreamed of.”
