After the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, cousins, best friends, and Parkland residents Ethan Behm and Dylan Parcheta were determined to help the community heal.
Behm, a junior at North Broward Preparatory School, and Parcheta, a sophomore at MSD, refurbish used golf carts to raise money for local nonprofits like Meadow’s Movement, Orange Ribbons for Jaime, and Make Our Schools Safe through their own nonprofit, Carts 4 A Cause.
Carts 4 A Cause rebuilds used golf carts into new, custom carts and raffles them off, donating 100 percent of the proceeds. To date, they have given seven carts to different organizations and children in need.
On May 2, their annual charity car show takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BB&T Center.
This year’s event benefits the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, founded by Parkland native and Chicago Cubs First Baseman Anthony Rizzo.
Behm said they felt it would be nice for their small organization to work with a much larger foundation with a Parkland connection.
“Our main purpose is to help kids, and the Anthony Rizzo Foundation helps families of children battling cancer,” he said.
The free family event will have food trucks, live music, raffle items, including a golf cart, and awesome cars to check out. To become a sponsor, donate, or register a vehicle for the show, visit Carts4ACause.org.
