With the regular season ending, Coconut Creek and Monarch High School officially held their Senior Nights for their soccer teams on Friday.
Coconut Creek
While both Coconut Creek soccer teams held senior night, only the boys were in action after the girls game was canceled.
The boys honored Steven Deras, Yoshua Torres, Weds Mathurin, Akeel Bartley, Joshua Martinez, Orette Henry, Juan Sanchez, and Jimmy Vernon. They picked up a 4-0 win to move to a 7-4-1 victory.
The two soccer players from the girls team honored were Special Pitts and Ranelle Thomas. The Cougars have only won win this season which came against Deerfield Beach High School on Nov 28. They also picked up a point with a tie against Boyd H. Anderson and scored goals this year against Stranahan, Plantation, and Miramar High School.
Next, both teams will play Coral Springs Charter on Tuesday, Jan 17. The boys will start at 4 p.m. while the girls will play at 6 p.m.
Monarch
Both soccer teams were in action on Friday, with the boys picking up a win while the girls fell to Coral Springs High School. The boys team recognized Daniel Noguera, Joseph Magallanes, Santiago Luna, Hugo Ladeira, Pedro Bernadino, Gavin Valencia, Victor Balbi, Yago Ortiz, Alexander Martinuzzi, Yuri De Franca, and Matheus Martini. They also picked up a 3-1 win to move their record to 7-5-3 this year, with Ortiz, Magallanes, and Bernardino picking up goals.
“The seniors have been the backbone of this team, and going into districts, we are looking to repeat as champions,” said Head Coach Eric Swickle.
The girls recognized Amanda Hammel and Kaitlyn Hammel. They ended up falling 6-0 in the game but have exciting wins this season against Blanche Ely and Deerfield Beach High School, outscoring their opponent 7-0 in the two games. Next, both teams are set to play West Broward High School on Thursday, Jan 19. The girls game will start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 6 p.m.
