With summer in full bloom, children’s laughter echoes across Camp Boggy Creek thanks to a Coconut Creek organization.

The Chiera Family Foundation presented a record-breaking donation of $200,000, the largest amount in their 30-year partnership with the camp in Eustis, FL.

The sum resulted from the 30th Anniversary Gala fundraiser and Golf Classic held by the foundation in April—the donation funds N.I.C.K.’s Camp, a week-long camp experience tailored for children battling cancer.

Besides aiding Camp Boggy Creek, The Chiera Family Foundation also offers college scholarships and golf and ice-skating lessons to kids with cancer.

Expressing his gratitude, Dan Jurman, President and CEO of Camp Boggy Creek, praised the Chiera Family Foundation’s unwavering support.

“Their most recent gift of $200,000 will continue to reach more and more children who truly need the transformational experience of camp in their lives. On behalf of our campers, their families, and Camp Boggy Creek, thank you. We could not create this magic without you.”

Lou Chiera, a Board Member and Trustee of the Chiera Family Foundation, echoed the sentiments. He underscored the joy of seeing children return to camp after the COVID-19-induced hiatus.

“The smiles on their faces and seeing them have a summer of fun just like other kids is the reason why our foundation was founded,” said Chiera.

This year’s summer camp, held from July 6 to July 10, was open for kids aged 7 to 16. The Chiera Family Foundation further supported the event by providing transportation and camp T-shirts for the attendees. The week-long event was also supplemented by Coral Ridge Country Club, who generously donated lunches.

Camp Boggy Creek, sprawling over 232 acres in Eustis, FL, was created by Actor Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf in 1996. It serves as a haven for children with serious illnesses, offering them a safe, medically-sound environment to enjoy a fulfilling camp experience.

The Chiera Family Foundation was established to honor the memory of their patriarch, Nick Chiera, who succumbed to cancer.

All their initiatives, including N.I.C.K.’s Camp, Scholarships, Golf, and Ice Skating, embody their mission: ‘Nothing is Impossible for Cancer Kids.’ The foundation’s annual event has grown into one of the area’s largest fundraisers for children and young adults battling cancer.
