Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas Baseball Player Commits to FGCU

Hunter Fitz-Gerald makes it official and commits to playing baseball at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2022.

The former star third baseman for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team and son of Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald played his first season for Florida Southern College at the Division II level. He then transferred to Hillsborough Community College to play JUCO.

“It means a lot to me because I have worked very hard to get to where I am at and to be recognized by a program like FGCU is awesome,” Fitz-Gerald said. “To earn a scholarship to play for a school that wants you is a great feeling.”

Fitz-Gerald, who resides in Margate, spent a pair of seasons on the MSD baseball team. He hit 11 home runs, drove in 45 runs in 38 games. Fitz-Gerald was later drafted in the 33rd round by the Colorado Rockies but decided to attend college.

He had the chance to play in four games before the season was postponed during his freshman year. However, as a sophomore, he has hit seven home runs and has driven in 24 RBI’s for Hillsborough.

Fitz-Gerald will be joining a program at FGCU that has been one of the powerhouses in the ASUN for the last decade and has produced several big-league players in Chris Sale, Jacob Barnes, Richard Bleier and Jake Noll.
