North Broward Prep continues its fall season with terrific wins and tough losses as the postseason approaches.
The football team picked up their first win following a 31-26 victory over Somerset Academy Key. Hunter Gillman went 15-26 for 240 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 54 rushing yards and a score on the ground, while Anthony Mestre had 14 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Cooking caught eight passes for 151 yards and scored alongside Tanner Gilman.
Next, the Eagles will play St. John Paul II Academy on Friday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. After being shut out in their first game, St . John Paul II Academy won back-to-back games.
The girls’ volleyball team defeated West Boca Raton Community High School in four sets in their only match this week. This was the Eagles’ eighth win of the season in 16 matches, with wins over American Heritage, Barron Collier, Somerset Academy, Somerset Academy Canyons, NSU University, and Spanish River Community High School.
Next, NBP will play FAU High School on Monday, September 30, at 6 p.m. before the Eagles close the season with matchups against Coral Springs Charter, Oddyseey Institute, Oxbridge Academy, and St. John Paul II Academy.
The golf team competed in the two-day SFPGA East Coast High School Championship. Max Gressele, who shot four over, had the low score for NBP, while Cooper Roth was five over. Jake Messana, Alexander Lavin, and Elliot Fishman also competed.
Tingting Zhuang led the girls team in their last tournament with a 77. She finished tenth overall and was followed by Jesera Mendez, Jordan Ellis, Ava Koury, and Cooper Auction.
The swim team held a meet at home but fell against Calvary Christian High School. The boys lost 116-44, and the girls were beaten 101-52. They will have. A few kids meet before they start the postseason, looking to make a run to the State Championship.
In the Northwest Area Schools XC Championship, the boys team finished fifth, led by Jackson Rivers in 16th place. Daniel Robles and Calvin Lukens finished in the top 30, while Luke Diamond, Joseph Rondon, Ryan Marder, Maxim Rostov, Luciano Belizan, Maxen Nguyen, and Alexander Vafai raced.
The girls team also finished in fifth place, with Lucia Casacci in third place individually. Briley Rebello was next to complete her race, followed by Penelope Boulton, Elise Pluta, Avery Lopez, and Eva Burdick. NBP will also close out its regular season and start in the postseason next month.
