North Broward Prep officially introduced Josh Blumenthal as the next head coach for the boys lacrosse team.
Athletic Director Mike Ostrowski said Blumenthal has had a tremendous track record of leading successful programs throughout his career.
“We are excited to have him join our athletic program and NBPS community as our Head Boys Lacrosse Coach,” said Ostrowski. “We feel he is a great fit to lead our program and will have a positive influence on our student-athletes.”
Blumenthal, a Long Island native, played college lacrosse at the University of Rhode Island and was a member of the 2001 Pioneer League Championship Team.
He then got into coaching and previously served as the Director of Athletics/Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Prior to that, Blumenthal was the associate athletic director and head coach at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Texas for five years. He has over 20 years of coaching experience, including time with Regis College Pride, Babson, Adelphi, and Palmer Trinity School in Miami.
“I have long admired North Broward Prep and its athletics department dating back to my time in Miami,” said Blumenthal. “The school has a great infrastructure, and to be part of something of this magnitude is one I take great pride and appreciation in doing so.”
Blumenthal will bring in an experienced coaching staff which consists of Charles Harreys (NCAA D3 player at Wittenberg University) and Jack O’Brien (NCAA D3 player at Regis College and former college head coach).
Blumenthal is set to take over a team that won twice last season. NBP has not had a winning record since 2017, when they finished 8-6, but Blumenthal says he has coached teams similar to this one.
“With our shared vision for growth and success puts us, in what I believe to be, a truly great spot to succeed through,” Blumenthal added. “I believe I have a recipe for unifying teams and building from the ground up, Blumenthal added. “I expect to have a similar journey as a member of the North Broward Prep coaching staff.”
