Marjory Stoneman Douglas football has faced a ton of adversity this year but was rewarded with a terrific win over South Plantation High School Friday night.
After having more games canceled last year than played, MSD got off to a terrific start in 2021 with a pair of wins. Then, their quarterback Ryan Spallina suffered a season-ending injury before several other starters were forced to miss time.
MSD then canceled a game due to positive COVID-19 tests but was finally back to playing football Friday night.
It took the Eagles only four offensive plays to score their first touchdown of the game. Matthew Wilson ran the ball twice to get inside the red zone before Hunter Rose scored from 20 to take a 7-0 lead for the first of two touchdowns for him in the game.
Wilson added a tremendous 45-yard touchdown run later in the game. Justin Spano also scored while Robbie Alhadeff kicked a pair of field goals in the victory.
“It’s great to get back in the win column,” said Head Coach Quentin short. “We have had a season full of adversity, so I’m just happy for the kids; we have continued to keep fighting for one another and kept a positive attitude.”
Up next, MSD will return home for the first time in over a month when they host senior night against Coral Springs High School. The Colts are coming off a loss to Boca Raton Community High School, but will play on Monday, October 29 against West Boca Raton Community High School for their Senior Night.
