Marjory Stoneman Douglas Running Back Signs With University

Running back, Derek Geffrard officially has made his decision to sign with Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

“It feels like a weight lifted off my shoulder,” the 2021 Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate said. “I have been working toward this since I was a freshman, and it feels amazing to accomplish that goal.”

Geffrard spent only one season with MSD and only had the chance to play in two games before the season was shut down, but Geffrard had a night to remember against Coral Glades. After A.J. Darring left with an injury, Geffrard stepped up and had 14 carries and ran for 135 yards.

He also scored a touchdown on a ten-yard run and contributed three tackles on defense as well. In his lone other game in Parkland, Geffrard has a pass break up and another tackle against Coral Springs High School.

“We knew he was going to help us,” said Head Coach Quentin short. “Geffrard is a great young man, and his best football is ahead of him.”

Geffrard started at Coconut Creek High School as a freshman, then spent two years at Chaminade High School, where he rushed for over 500 yards in two seasons while his team combined 20-4.

His big reason for signing with Graceland was their commitment to him from day one of the recruiting process — and he wanted to return the favor.

They will have their first game on August 28 against MidAmerica Nazarene University at 6 p.m.
