North Broward Prep hockey closed out a historic season at the 2024 USA Hockey National Tournament, finishing as a semifinalist for the first time in school history.
After winning their third straight State Championship, the Eagles traveled to Pennsylvania and played in five games, going 3-2. NBP beat Jesuit Rangers (Texas) 2-1 and then had a 5-4 win against Oakdale Bears (Maryland), with Cozy Zamet scoring a goal with under ten seconds left in regulation. The Eagles also beat the Langley Saxons (Virginia) 3-2 but were eliminated after falling 2-1 in the semifinals.
“This was the most successful season in school history, Head coach Jim Gabrione said. “We were undefeated in the regular season, won our third straight League Championship, our third straight State Championship, and were National Tournament Semifinalists. It is a great way for our seniors to end their four years by earning a third-place medal at the USA hockey nationals. I am very proud of our group this year.”
NBP will have eight players graduate this year, with most of them going on to play club hockey in college. Still, they will return several key players as the Eagles attempt to win their fourth straight state championship.
