Sharkey’s in Coral Springs
By Ryan Yousefi
For parents looking for somewhere to take their kids for a fresh virtual school-ready haircut, a new option will soon be available.
Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids, located at 2350 North University Drive, will open its doors for business on August 25 at 10 a.m. The location will be the 10th located in Florida for the franchise, with the next closest one in Pembroke Pines.
According to Maria Fernanda Sosa, a resident of Parkland’s Watercrest community and owner of Sharkey’s, the location will specialize in serving children as young as just a few months old to 14-years-old, with each age group having a different setting catered to their specific interests.
“Three stations will be equipped with Xbox game systems for the older children,” she said. “While other stations, eight in total, will have cars for children to sit in and televisions that include streaming services such as Disney+, Netflix, and HULU.”
According to the franchise’s website, locations routinely have a variety of “seats” for kids to choose from, including a Dodge Police Cruiser, Barbie Jeep, Lightning McQueen race car, Buzz Light Year truck, Hummer, Frozen Jeep, Fire Engine, and #8 Dale Earnhardt NASCAR race car.
To celebrate their grand opening, Sharkey’s plans to run a $5 off promotion on all haircuts. A girl’s hairstyle averages $25, while a boy usually runs about $23.
Sharkey’s will have both fulltime and parttime stylists on hand, and Sosa says she even plans to one day cut hair herself.
The hours for Sharkey’s will vary, with the location planning to be closed on Mondays. From Tuesday to Friday, they will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., with weekends currently set at 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
All hours, with everything else in 2020, are subject to change.
Amid the coronavirus, Sosa says customers can rest assured that Sharkey’s will be following all CDC Covid-19 prevention protocols to ensure their safety while in the store.
“We’ll be checking temperatures at the door, and obviously requiring everyone to wear masks,” she said. “We’ll follow each and every guideline.”
