Our community has come a long way from last year to now. This summer featured a return of fireworks shows, outdoor concerts, and gatherings that had been missing from our lives.
Kids have enjoyed camps throughout the community, Broward Park’s splash pads have kept many cool, and things are getting back to normal. We have come through so much together, and we are reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. I look forward to seeing everyone as we move forward into the future.
August means students are gearing up to go back to school. Make sure to get your school supplies during the tax-free week running from July 31 – August 9. Take advantage and save on items such as pencils, composition books, computers, and more.
If you can, consider donating supplies to those less fortunate in our community. Several community organizations work to distribute supplies to children who need them. I am wishing all our students, teachers, and staff a fantastic start to the school year!

In August I will be touring the petroleum facilities at Port Everglades to get a firsthand look at how fuel gets to consumers.
Supplying fuel is a necessary part of daily life, and crucial during an emergency such as a hurricane. Our region receives almost all its fuel via Port Everglades. It is important that we maintain full operations to keep all our communities supplied and safe.
As Floridians, we know that August is when hurricane season really kicks into gear. Staying prepared and vigilant is key. Make sure you and your family (including pets) have all the necessary food, supplies, and medications needed if a storm comes our way.
If you are a resident at-risk, now is the time to make sure you are registered for Broward County’s Vulnerable Population Registry or Special Needs Shelters. All residents should sign up for Broward’s emergency notification system, AlertBroward, in addition to your city’s community alert system. Visit Broward.org/Hurricane to register and find all the info you need to be Storm Ready.
