The North Broward Prep football team opened the regular season on Friday night, getting a pair of special teams touchdowns from Vincent Jackson in a 41-28 loss to NSU University.
The Eagles fell behind 19-0 before Jackson put NBP on the scoreboard with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Both teams added scores late in the first half, with Levi Flynn scoring his first touchdown of the season on a one-yard run to cut the deficit to 26-14 at halftime.
NBP allowed an early touchdown in the second half but responded to pull within six. Ralph Diaz connected with Christian Deering for a touchdown before Jackson struck again on special teams, returning a punt for a score. The Eagles had possession late in the fourth quarter with an opportunity to continue their comeback but came up short on fourth down. NSU University then added a late touchdown to secure the 41-28 win.
NBP won five games last season before falling to top-seeded Cardinal Mooney High School in the playoffs. The Eagles will return to the field against Cooper City High School on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. The Cowboys finished 5-5 last season and did not qualify for the playoffs.
