A pair of standout special teams players from North Broward Prep are headed to the ACC after announcing their commitments to Boston College.
Kicker and punter Mateo Sanchez, a 4.5-star prospect, will join long snapper Aiden Field with the Eagles after both pledged to the program.
“Thank you to all the coaches who have been with me along this journey,” Sanchez said. “Thank you to my parents who have been by my side through all the highs and lows, and my friends and brothers for pushing me to be the best version of myself.”
Sanchez is coming off an outstanding junior season in which he connected on nine field goals, including a career-long 52-yarder. He also converted 21 of 22 extra-point attempts while recording 36 touchbacks on 69 kickoffs.
As a punter, Sanchez has made tremendous strides, improving his average by more than 10 yards from his freshman to junior season. He averaged 37.7 yards per punt last year, with a long of 58 yards, and pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line nine times on 26 punts.
Field, who has also spent the past two seasons on the North Broward Prep varsity basketball team, expressed his gratitude upon committing.
“Thank you to the Boston College coaching staff for this incredible opportunity,” Field said. “I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way, especially my coaches, parents, family, teammates, and friends. I wouldn’t be here without your constant support, encouragement, and belief in me.”
Field helped anchor the Eagles’ special teams unit as North Broward Prep earned victories over Westminster Academy, Pembroke Pines Charter, Somerset Academy Key, St. John Paul II Academy, and Coral Springs Charter last season.
Both Sanchez and Field will have one final high school season before heading to Boston College. They will open their senior campaign on Aug. 14 when North Broward Prep hosts NSU University School at 6 p.m., looking to build on last year’s success before beginning their collegiate careers.
