The North Broward Prep girls volleyball team’s quest for a second straight State Championship ended with a five-set loss to Pine Crest School, 25-20, 27-29, 25-15, 20-25, 12-15, in the Regional Final.
After defeating Pine Crest twice during the regular season, including in the Palm League Championship, the Eagles won the first and third sets but could not hold on as Pine Crest rallied to secure the victory
The Eagles finished the season with 25 wins and captured another District Championship. They defeated Monsignor Pace 25-13, 25-11, 25-19 in the Regional Quarterfinals before knocking off NSU University School 25-21, 28-30, 25-19, 25-15 to advance to the Regional Final.
Sophomore Melia Samms led the Eagles in kills, followed by college commits Jayda Palumbo and Lia Ray. Liuehrs led the team in blocks and assists while also recording over 200 digs and ranking fifth in kills. Heguaburo also contributed significantly, finishing third on the team in assists and fourth in digs.
Despite falling short of another State Championship, the future remains bright for NBP, which has only two seniors on its roster. Palumbo will continue her volleyball career at Villanova University, while the Eagles are set to return nearly their entire starting lineup next season.
