An alleged car burglar on the run from police was captured in Coconut Creek Monday, authorities said.
Bryan Scoles, 26, of Miami, allegedly broke a car window around 2 a.m. in the 3700 block of NW 35th Street – a crime spotted by a witness who called 911, according to Coconut Creek Police.
The witness told police the car belonged to one of his neighbors and believed the window-smasher might be trying to steal the vehicle.
He gave responding officers a good description of a man who turned out to be Scoles, police said, as well as the Jeep in which Scoles allegedly fled the scene.
Officers set up a dragnet in the area, but Scoles initially eluded them, police said.
Around 40 minutes after the 911 call, an eagle-eyed officer said he found Scoles’ Jeep parked in the area. As the officer was investigating, Scoles came out of a wooded area near the Jeep, saw the officer, and took off running, police said.
With the help of a Broward County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, officers caught up with Scoles a short time later and placed him under arrest.
He was charged with vehicle burglary, grand theft auto, criminal mischief, and possession of several burglary tools officers found in the Jeep, which had been stolen from Miami-Dade County in October, police said.
Records show Scoles was being held at the Broward County Jail Wednesday on an $8,500 bond.
