Anglers of all ages are invited to cast their lines at the City of Coconut Creek’s Annual Fishing Derby, returning to Sabal Pines Park on Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The family-friendly event offers participants a morning of fishing and the chance to compete for prizes for the weirdest catch, the heaviest catch, and the most fish caught. The derby operates under catch-and-release rules to help preserve the park’s lake.
All ages are welcome to participate, though children 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Participants are responsible for bringing their own fishing gear and bait.
Check-in will take place at the Pine Pavilion at Sabal Pines Park, located at 5005 NW 39th Ave.
Registration is $15 for Coconut Creek residents and $20 for non-residents. Space is limited to 20 participants, and registration remains open until all spots are filled.
To qualify for resident pricing, participants must provide a state-issued driver’s license or a valid passport along with proof of Coconut Creek residency. Acceptable proof includes a voter registration card, water bill, cable bill, or electric bill dated within the past two months. Payment is accepted by credit card only.
Registration can be completed online at CoconutCreek.gov/Webtrac or in person at the Recreation Complex or the Community Center, located at 1100 Lyons Road. Participants must have a WebTrac account before registering online. Assistance with account setup is available by contacting the Recreation Complex at 954-956-1580.
A copy of a child’s birth certificate may be required during walk-in registration to verify age and guardianship.
