Registration is open for the 16th Annual North Creek Police Explorer 5K Run and Walk, which will be held on Saturday, December 7, in Coconut Creek.
The race starts at 5 p.m. at North Creek Presbyterian Church, 4601 Northwest 71st Pl., according to the Coconut Creek Police Department.
Runners, their families, and friends are welcome to arrive at the church starting at 3:30 p.m. when race registration kicks off.
The event will include free food such as hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as live music, police said.
Runners and walkers can register for the event here.
The 5K race is the largest annual fundraiser for the city’s police explorers program and remains a favorite among locals “because it’s a Saturday evening race with a great atmosphere which includes live music and food for all,” police said in an online announcement.
The 5 p.m. race will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing the overall top male and female runners and the top three male and female finishers in two categories: entrants 12 to 80 years old and members of law enforcement.
The first 130 finishers will all receive medals, police said.
All entrants will receive a swag bag that includes a race shirt.
Registration fees for the event are $40 before race day and $45 on race day. The cost is $25 for entrants 12 and under
Police said proceeds will directly benefit the Explorer program, which provides students ages 14 to 18 with experience and training for a career in law enforcement.
The event’s fundraising goal is $5,000, which would cover costs for explorer uniforms, equipment, trips, regional competitions, and supplies.
“Without your help, students cannot cover these costs or pursue their passion – giving back to the community,” police said.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can email info@northcreektoday.org.
