The start of the celebration for seniors began this week, with several student athletes from Coconut Creek honored before heading off to college.
Ethan Phillips, Peter McLaughlin, Kenneth Hall, Felix Ostamendy, Dakota Miller, and Joshua Nieves were all recognized from the North Broward Prep football team.
The football team beat St. John Paul II Academy to improve to 4-3 this season. It was also senior night as Ethan Phillips, Peter McLaughlin, Kenneth Hall, Felix Ostamendy, Dakota Miller, and Joshua Nieves were all honored.
They went on to beat St. John Paul II Academy 27-24, improving to 4-3 this season. Kenneth Hall had two rushing touchdowns, while Ralph Diaz finished the game with 152 passing yards and tossed a touchdown to Braxton Bylaw. Mateo Sanchez made two field goals as well as three extra points.
Next, they will play Calvary Christian Academy on Thursday, October 9, at 6 p.m., as they are 5-2 this year, with their only loss coming against Cardinal Gibbons High School. Calvary Christian Academy won 44-13 in the lone matchup in 2024.
In North Broward Prep volleyball, the 13th team in the state continued to shine, beginning the season 14-2. Their only losses in 16 matches this year came in a tournament, as they also honored their seniors, Riley Dynan and Chelsea Ventura. Daisa Johnson, Yasmin Dias Tonon, Ava Swartman, Layni Tobias, and Kate Lynch.
They are set to play their final match of the regular season on Monday, October 6, against Ranson Everglades High School. The Raiders are 6-12 this season after winning 17 matches a season ago.
Willis Gillis, Eric Levy, and Daniel Robles were recognized from the cross-country team. They ran in the Bobshever’s NW Area Schools XC Championship and were led by Hadas Goodman, placing 37th for the girls. The boys’ team came in fifth overall with Caden Nassar, Ari Arbel, Levi Bekker, Jackson Rivas, Alexander Vafai, Matthew Vafai, and Christoper Rose competing. The golf team honored Jiayi Wang and Max Gressele, while the swim team will hold senior night later this week.
