Earn Service Hours at Sabal Pines Park Cleanup on August 10

Coconut Creek residents are gearing up for a community-driven cleanup event at Sabal Pines Park on August 10.

Held at noon, volunteers will assemble at the park’s administration office next to the tennis courts, where they will receive a bucket, gloves, and pick-up tools, walk around the park, and collect any trash and debris they find.

According to parks superintendent Enrique Castro, volunteers are encouraged to wear sunscreen and a hat. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department park rangers run the event.

“This is a volunteer-based program to let the community be involved in cleaning and preserving their parks,” said Castro.

“I love doing this type of activity. You get a good feeling when you are helping keep our parks clean,” said Commissioner John Brodie. “We are all responsible for maintaining our community, and this is a great way to do it.”

Volunteers will be encouraged to work until 1:30 p.m. The park is large and has soccer, football, baseball, and softball fields.

Brodie said he would sign the necessary forms to give high school students who participate credit for service hours needed for graduation.

Brodie said, “I am looking forward to this community event. I have done the last four out of five events, and they were great.”

Sabal Palms is located at 5005 NW 39th Avenue in Coconut Creek.
