While one season nears its end, another starts in Coconut Creek, with several teams in action on the field.
The Monarch High School baseball team recorded a pair of wins following games against Cooper City and Olympic Heights Community High School with their new coach Liam Burns. The Knights beat Cooper City 6-5 and then went on to lose 11-0 against Coral Springs High School.
“I was thrilled with the way my team battled, fighting back from early deficits in each of our first two games,” Burns said. “Our discipline at the plate and work ethic was on full display. To be able to get my first career win with this group of guys is very special to me. I look forward to the road ahead, and all that’s to come.”
The Knights went 9-11 last year and will play Boyd H. Anderson High School in their next game on Wednesday, February 19, at 3:45 p.m.
The Monarch High School softball team opened the 2025 season with a 9-2 win over Calvary Christian Academy. Rayanana Council, Mia Macaione, Luz Moreira, and Elena Ramirez all had RBIs, while Macaione also pitched three scoreless innings with three strikeouts before Ramirez got the final six outs. The Knights went 10-12 last year and play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Tuesday, February 16, at 4 p.m.
The North Broward Prep baseball team started their quest for back-to-back State Championships with three wins this week. They beat Park Vista Community High School 5-1 in their first game, with John Rodriguez and Vincent Diaz each knocking in two while Adrian Rodriguez drove in one.
Logan Bristol got the win, while Jack Rostock and Marcus Hall each pitched in relief before Kiernan O’Neil got the save. The offense then exploited for 12 runs in a win against ABF Academy Homestead before winning a 1-0 win over American Heritage High School. Nate Hernadez and Rostock combined to toss a shutout, with Anthony Maestre knocked in the only run. Next, they will play Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Tuesday, February 18 at 6 p.m.
The Eagles also began lacrosse, with the boy’s team splitting their two games. They won 7-8 against Spanish River Community High School before falling 9-8 in double overtime against Miami Country Day High School. This was also the first win for coach Connor Dubinski, who recently played college lacrosse.
Chandler Ripps currently leads the team with seven goals, while Chase Rosenstrauch has three. Zane Mukamal and Georgie Quatela each have two, with Max Brownhill and Matthew Routman scoring once. They will play NSU University in their next game on Monday, February 17, at 6 p.m.
