Three teenagers were arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly setting off fireworks inside a hallway at Coconut Creek High School during dismissal, authorities said.
The incident happened at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesday as students were leaving for the day. According to Coconut Creek Police, the sound of the fireworks created panic throughout the school and prompted a large police response.
Police said the teens were charged with interfering with a school day, possession of a destructive device on school property, and exhibition of a destructive device on school property.
All three were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
