Volleyball season is officially underway in Coconut Creek, three teams recording their first win.
Monarch High School had previously dropped its first three matches, losing in four sets to Somerset Academy and Deerfield Beach, as well as a three-set loss against Deerfield Beach. However, they beat J.P. Taravella on Tuesday in five sets.
The Knights won 25-17, 20-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-12 after winning four matches a season ago before their matchup with Coconut Creek High School on Thursday at 5 p.m. . The Cougars beat Blanche Ely High School 25-9, 25-7, 25-19 in their first match after winning three times last year.
North Broward Prep is 5-0 to start their season and have only lost two sets. They beat FAU High School, NSU University, Coral Springs Charter, and Somerset Academy Canyons in three sets while winning in five sets against Kings Academy.
The Eagles, who went 14-9 last year, will play Cypress Bay High School in their next match on Wednesday, September 3, at 5:30 p.m. The Lighting are 1-1 this season after beating Pembroke Pines Charter but losing to St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
