Deputies arrested a woman they say stole a victim’s identity and used it to buy thousands of dollars worth of furniture in Coconut Creek.
Jennifer Montes, 36, of Boca Raton, allegedly stole a Miami-Dade County woman’s identity and illegally purchased more than $4,000 in goods at El Dorado Furniture at 5855 Lyons Road, according to a post made Monday on the Coconut Creek Police Department’s Facebook page.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Montes for the crimes in May. She is charged with two counts of identity theft and one count of grand theft, police said.
The crimes happened in November 2023. El Dorado Furniture discovered the rip-off in January and showed police surveillance footage of the alleged thief and her car, an Audi.
Police said they visited the location where the thief had the furniture delivered and spotted the Audi from the video, according to an arrest affidavit.
The Audi belonged to Montes, who was later identified from the store footage, police said.
Records show Montes was released from jail on a $4,500 bond on May 29. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 1.
