Vinkemulder Neighborhood {City of Coconut Creek}
Efforts are underway to improve the Vinkemulder Neighborhood, situated just east of Lyons Road and west of the Florida Turnpike in Coconut Creek.
During the July 10 meeting, the commission approved an ordinance on first reading to adopt the Vinkemulder Neighborhood Master Plan prepared by Bermello Ajamil. It will amend the land development code by enacting the Vinkemulder Equestrian Neighborhood overlay area.
This master plan will involve more road signs, landscaping, walking and horse trails, and parks to enhance the area’s beauty, according to Mayor Jackie Railey.
The Vinkemulder Neighborhood includes approximately 93 acres. The north side of the neighborhood is bounded by a large city-owned property that maintains frontage along Wiles Road.
According to the city, this property is not maintained and remains in a natural state. Additionally, there is a natural area in the San Mellina Neighborhood, a gated community comprising 45 single-family homes.
To the south is an FPL powerline transmission easement, and the west side of the neighborhood is bounded by the Coquina development, a larger single-family residential development with approximately 180 homes, according to city information.
A goal of the master plan is to enhance the neighborhood’s circulation and connectivity by enhancing vehicular roadways, adding pedestrian sidewalks, and bike paths or horseback riding trails. The pedestrian infrastructure could be improved by adding more sidewalks within public rights-of-way and expanding the secondary pedestrian network, according to city information.
The neighborhood’s rich, natural features and landscaping could be leveraged to enhance its aesthetic appeal and environmental quality. This includes adding more green space, improving the maintenance of existing areas, and incorporating more native plants into the public landscaping, according to city information.
