Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Promotes Lori Choat to Assistant Chief

A longtime firefighter who began her career as a high school fire cadet has been promoted to assistant chief at Coconut Creek Fire Rescue.

Assistant Chief Lori Choat’s journey in the fire service began while she was a student at Coconut Creek High School, where she joined the former Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Cadet Program. Knowing early on that she wanted to become a firefighter, she graduated from the Broward Fire Academy in 2003 and launched her career with Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue.

During her years with the department, Choat gained extensive experience serving at Fire Stations 50 and 94 before joining Coconut Creek Fire Rescue when the department was established in 2021.

Since arriving in Coconut Creek, Choat has steadily advanced through the department’s leadership ranks. She was promoted from captain to battalion chief, then to division chief of EMS, before earning her latest promotion to assistant chief.

In addition to her operational leadership, Choat established the Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Cadet Program to help inspire the next generation of firefighters and emergency responders. The program has grown to include 25 high school students and young adults interested in pursuing careers in the fire service.
