North Broward Prep girls volleyball has had quite the start to the season, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Tri-County State Championship and a pair of college commitments.
The reigning state champions won four matches to reach the championship match, defeating Coral Springs Charter, Gulf Coast, Westminster, and Lourdes Academy in straight sets before falling to Gulliver Prep in their second loss of the season. The Eagles responded with a five-set win over Saint Andrew’s before defeating Coral Springs Charter in four sets.
NBP also recently celebrated college commitments from Lia Ray, who committed to Florida State University, and Jada Stephenson, who committed to Brown University. They join Jayda Palumbo, who announced last fall that she will attend Villanova University, giving the Eagles three college commits on the roster.
Ray, who will also play beach volleyball for the Seminoles, has been on the varsity team since her freshman season. She recorded 82 kills in her first year before nearly doubling that total with 150 as a sophomore, helping NBP win the first state championship in program history.
Stephenson was also a major contributor to last year’s championship team, finishing the season with 136 kills, 41 aces and 20 blocks.
NBP will be back in action against Jupiter High School on Thursday, September 17, at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors are 5-0 this season and rank ninth in the state.
