Another week of high school basketball in Coconut Creek featured dominant victories, tight finishes, and pivotal matchups.
The Monarch High School boys team opened the week with an 80–45 blowout win over Somerset Prep, but followed with a 75–31 loss to Plantation High School. The Knights now sit at 9–6 on the season and will face Coral Springs High School on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Colts are 13–6 this year after recording 18 wins last season.
The Monarch High School girls team earned a forfeit win against Plantation High School before falling 50–38 to Boyd H. Anderson High School, dropping their record to 6–6. The Knights will next take on Stranahan High School on Tuesday, January 20, at 6 p.m. The Mighty Dragons are winless through their first five games this season after losing 11 games a year ago.
The Coconut Creek High School boys team dropped two close games this week, losing by a combined seven points. The Cougars fell 47–43 to Charles W. Flanagan High School and then lost 65–62 to Deerfield Beach High School, slipping to 7–13 on the season. Coconut Creek will play Northeast High School on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Hurricanes hold a 7–10 record.
The Coconut Creek High School girls team had a strong week, defeating Charles W. Flanagan High School 56–19 and edging Deerfield Beach High School 48–44, improving to 8–2. The Cougars will begin tournament play on Monday, January 19, against Jupiter High School at 9 a.m. The Warriors have won 12 of their first 16 games this season.
In a matchup between two teams that combined for 35 wins this season, North Broward Prep defeated Somerset Academy 67–47. The Eagles will next face Killian High School on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Cougars are 9–2 this season, with their only losses coming against Hialeah Gardens and Somerset Academy.
The North Broward Prep girls team moved to 11–6 after a 56–50 loss to Pine Crest School. Earlier in the week, the Eagles dominated Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School with a 74–10 victory. North Broward Prep will face Pine Crest again on Wednesday, January 21, at 4 p.m. The Panthers are 5–5 this season but lost 61–29 in their lone matchup with the Eagles last year.
