Coconut Creek Approves $1 Million Homebuyer Program for MainStreet Development

The MainStreet at Coconut Creek mixed-use development is one of the biggest projects in the city’s history, and city leaders want to make it possible for working people to live there.

During the August 13 meeting, the commission passed a resolution approving the MainStreet Workforce Homebuyer Program between the city and DRP Greenbough, Lennar Homes, and GSR RE Partners, allowing the city manager to execute the Workforce Homebuyer Agreement.

The companies, known as the developers, are building approximately 780 for-sale residential units within Blocks 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, and 15A of the MainStreet at Coconut Creek development generally located on the west side of Lyons Road between Wiles Road and West Sample Road. City leaders have determined that a Workforce Homebuyer Assistance Program is necessary to meet the existing and anticipated housing needs of working people and to maintain a varied socio-economic mix in the community, according to city information.

City leaders want to offer the MainStreet program to purchasers of residential dwelling units in connection with the developer’s sale of units within the project and to make the MainStreet program available to qualified buyers who want to purchase homes there.

Coconut Creek City has designated $1,000,000 in city funds from the affordable housing trust fund to the MainStreet program for buyers.

In addition to the trust fund dollars allocated to the MainStreet Program, the developer’s required housing linkage fee payments for the non-residential development within the MainStreet development, totaling approximately $118,588, will also be directed to MainStreet through the trust fund.
