With the holiday break approaching, three Coconut Creek schools have seen strong performances from their basketball programs.
The Monarch High School boys team is 7-4 and heads into the new year riding a four-game winning streak. The Knights defeated Marjory Stoneman Douglas by six points before beating Hallandale, Flanagan, and FAU High School. Earlier this season, Monarch also picked up wins against West Boca Raton, Parkridge Christian Academy, and Blanche Ely High School.
Isiah Phillip leads the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game. Jamar Green, Nikole Campbell, and Bradley Phillippe are each averaging at least six points per contest. Monarch will open the new year against Coconut Creek High School on January 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The Cougars have one win in nine games this season, defeating Pompano Beach High School 80-59 in the season opener. Since then, Coconut Creek has dropped eight straight games, though two of those losses were decided by two points or fewer.
Bivindi Jean leads the team with 17.2 points per game, while Nicholas Lindsay ranks second at 9.1 points per game. The Cougars will compete in the Delray Holiday Classic before their matchup with Monarch High School
The North Broward Prep boys team is off to a perfect 10-0 start and currently ranks third in the state. The Eagles recently captured three wins at the Holiday BSN Classic, defeating Lake Nona, Ponte Vedra, and Windermere Prep.
Francesco Borio, Feliz Buroz, Samuel Cano, and Jayden Smith are all averaging double figures in scoring, while Ryan Baxley is contributing 9.8 points per game. North Broward Prep will next compete in the Miami Holiday Invitational beginning December 27.
The Monarch High School girls’ team is 5-2 this season. Despite losing their final game before the holiday break, the Knights earned wins over Somerset Academy, Stranahan, Parkridge Christian Academy, Plantation, and Hallandale High School. Monarch will face Coconut Creek High School on January 6 at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cougars are also 5-2 and have won three straight games, including a dominant 62-31 victory over South Plantation High School in their most recent outing. They also recorded wins against Boyd H. Anderson, Plantation, Pompano Beach, and Parkridge Christian Academy. Ma’Kylah Menard and Arial Jackson have led the way, combining to average over 30 points per game.
The North Broward Prep girls’ team is 9-3 this season. After losing their opener, the Eagles won nine straight games before dropping their last two. Ranked 50th in the state, North Broward Prep will face Oxbridge Academy on January 6 at 5:30 p.m.
