The Women's Club of Coconut Creek Hosts Self-Guided Butterfly Garden Tour

A local women’s club is organizing a self-guided walking tour highlighting scenic areas around Coconut Creek.

The Women’s Club of Coconut Creek is comprised of like-minded women who regularly collaborate to support the Coconut Creek community through fundraisers, monthly socials, potluck meetings, and various other events.

The Butterfly Garden Tour will show participants what dedicated Coconut Creek residents have done to promote private gardens and other eco-friendly practices on their respective properties. Attendees can also gain creative ideas for eco-friendly projects to try out on their own.

Beginning at city hall, pre-registered participants will receive a wristband and a secret map listing 12 properties to drive to throughout the city’s 12 square miles.

Attendees of the event can expect to see colorful murals, orchid walls, a front yard edible farm, a native treehouse, a horse farm, rose gardens, butterfly gardens, sculpture gardens, a secret garden, and more.

Each site of the journey will feature a homeowner, a property manager, or a city worker to tour each property. In addition, there will be volunteers on site to guide participants through each location.

The tour concludes in Veterans Park, which leads participants to the city’s Hometown Market for food, beverages, garden tools, and other accessories. There will be gardening vendors available to answer questions and provide products and services for gardening needs.

According to the city’s Vice Mayor Sandra Welch, a Women’s Club of Coconut Creek member since 1997, “These yards tell stories of passion for attracting rare migrating birds, growing fruits and herbs, planting Arbor Day tree giveaways, and recycling efforts. It’s a must-see.”

Commissioner John Brodie stated, “The gardens are important to see, and this is a great incentive to get residents out and into the outdoors.”

This self-guided butterfly garden walking adventure will take place on March 4, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All proceeds for the tour will go towards the scholarship fund for high school seniors in Coconut Creek. Last year, students were awarded 14 scholarships at $1,000 each. This year, the organization hopes to award even more scholarships to students.
