With 22 Days to Go, Dems Lead in Returning Vote-By-Mail Ballots

With only 22 more days until Election Day, Democrats are returning their vote-by-mail ballots in larger percentages than Republicans or Independents.

Over 500,000 residents in Broward County requested vote-by-mail ballots. After mailing them to households the required 33-40 days before the election, the Supervisor of Elections office reported 28 percent had been received as of October 12 — or 156,410.

These include:

30.75 percent of all Democratic Ballots received (319,783 sent)

25.34 of all Republican Ballots received (100,591 sent)

23.72 percent of all NPA Ballots received (137,290 sent)

Coral Springs resident and Attorney Jeff Adelman took advantage of vote-by-mail in the primaries and the General Election. His most recent ballot was counted in two days, he said.

“I was shocked,” he said. “Faster than covid test results.”

Adelman said he voted for Biden in March, and because of the pandemic, he wanted to make sure he would be able to vote.

Luis Andino, an Independent, already voted-by-mail and dropped it off at the Supervisor of Elections Office in Lauderhill.

But others still plan on dropping theirs off or voting at the polls.

Wendy Fisher, an Independent, voted by mail and planned on dropping her ballot off at an early voting site.

Debbie Rosenberg, a Democrat, planned to vote in person during early voting at the library.

Merrie Cetta Artner, a Republican, said she would be voting in person on Election Day.

Lisa Teger-Zhen, a Democrat, said, “I have my vote by mail ballots filled out for my whole family (5 voters). And we will be dropping them at the Supervisors of Elections this Saturday.

Mirela Bejleri, a Democrat, said they have vote-by-mail ballots filled out for the whole family, including her parents and in-laws – eight votes altogether. “I will be dropping them at the Supervisor of Elections tomorrow.

Early Voting/Drop off Vote-by-Mail Ballots

Residents who are holding on to a vote-by-mail ballot should return it as soon as possible. To request a vote-by-mail ballot, the deadline is Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Those who change their minds and decide they do not want to vote-by-mail but bring the ballot to either early voting or election day to cast an in-person vote.

To drop off a vote-by-mail ballot, visit the Supervisor of Elections at Lauderhill Mall at 1501 NW 40th Avenue, Lauderhill, FL or at any of the early voting sites below from Monday, October 19 at 7:00 a.m. through Sunday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m.
