Parents can learn about the risk factors and warning signs for mental health challenges in children in an online Town Hall hosted by State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky.
“The pandemic and school pressures for our school-aged children have added mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts,” said Rep. Hunschofsky, who, along with youth suicide prevention expert Dr. Scott Poland, will share local and national resources after his presentation.
Poland, a Professor and the Director of the Suicide and Violence Prevention Office at Nova Southeastern University, will share signs, risk factors, and available resources for mental health, depression, anxiety, and suicide.
“Suicide is preventable, and what is holding suicide prevention back is our reluctance to talk about it. Talking about it lets the suicidal individual know they are not alone and help is available,” said Dr. Poland.
The Town Hall is set for Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. Attendees must register in advance using the following link: HD96SuicidePrevention. If time allows, there may be time for questions after the presentation.
