Former Marjory Stoneman Pitcher Returns Home After Blockbuster Trade

Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas pitcher Jesus Luzardo is on his way back home after being traded to the Miami Marlins.

Playing for the Oakland Athletics, Luzardo was exchanged for former All-Star Starling Marte before the trade deadline on July 31.

It had been a rough year for Luzardo. The hard-throwing lefty pitched in 13 games and had a 2-4 record along with a 6.87 ERA. He had previously been sent to AAA after moving to the bullpen and suffering a hand injury this season.

He blossomed into the scene with Oakland after being traded from the Washington Nationals in 2017. He pitched to an ERA under two in his rookie season, winning three games in 2020 despite missing time after testing positive for COVID-19 last year.

Earlier in his career, Luzardo won 23 games for MSD and is someone to keep an eye on as the Marlins continue rebuilding and trading away many of their top players.

The Marlins currently are 44-57 and sit in last place in the NL East, ten games behind the first-place New York Mets.
