With the postseason approaching, three high schools in Coconut Creek held Senior Nights in basketball while brackets were also released for the postseason.
Monarch
The Monarch boys basketball team held their senior night before their game against Coconut Creek High School on January 23. The Knights honored Benjamin Boutin, Floyd Hepburn, Brandon Lynn, Zachary Mason, Tristan Philogene, Kayden Williams, and Sidney Lewinsky before winning 58-54 to improve to 7-9 this year. Williams led the team with 12 points while Lewinsky added 11, and Benjamin Boutin and Caleb Jean Baptise had nine.
The Knights played their final game of the regular season on Monday against Marjory Stoneman Douglas but lost 67-43 despite nine players scoring. Nikyle Campbell finished with nine points, Benjamin Boutin had eight, and Lewinsky added seven. Monarch will head into the District Championship seeded seventh and play Plantation High School in their opening game on Monday, February 3, at 7:30 p.m.
The Monarch girls basketball team lost 62-17 against Coconut Creek High School but recognized Alexiya Gray, Frida de La Fuente, Layla Levy, Sasha Rodriguez, Jaylyn Browne, and Jael Dixon. They finished the regular season 2-11 after falling to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 63-4.
The Monarch girls basketball team had only two wins against Hallandale and Pompano Beach High School during the regular season. They will be seeded seventh and face Coral Springs High School on Tuesday, February 4.
Coconut Creek
The Coconut Creek School boys basketball team honored Dallas Dixon, Anthony Darville, and Jeremiah Ray before losing to Coral Springs Charter on Senior Night 69-35. The Coconut Creek High School girls team had a senior night earlier this year but played Coral Springs Charter on Monday and lost 62-44. The Cougars head into the District Championship as the fifth seed and will play Northeast High School in the Quarterfinals on Monday, February 3.
North Broward Prep
The North Broward Prep School Eagles had their boys team beat Pine Crest School for their 11th win on Senior Night 78-58. That win extended their streak to four as they honored Jon Garnock and Christian Rosado. They competed in the Palm League Championship and won their first game against Miami County Day School 80-66 but lost by two against St. Andrew’s School. However, they will have a bye in the opening round before playing St. Andrews’s School again in the District Semifinals on Wednesday, February 5.
The girls team recognized Kaydie Sturm before their Friday game against Cardinal Newman High School. The Eagles won 65-42. Despite falling behind by two in the first quarter, NBP allowed only two points in the second quarter and rolled from there to win their 10th game of the season. The Eagles will be seeded third and have a bye in the opening round before playing Coral Springs Charter on Thursday, February 6.
