Monarch High School {Aiden Palmer}
Monarch High School’s theatre program is building and earning recognition.
Members of the theatre and director Tatiana Ahlbum won an International Thespian Society award from the Educational Theatre Association – Theatre in Our Schools Outstanding Impact Award.
This prestigious award went to four schools in the United States that showed outstanding advocacy during March, according to Ahlbum.
The Monarch theatre program won a trophy, recognition on the Educational Theatre Association website, and licensing to a free Disney musical. Monarch is planning to do High School Musical Jr. in December.
Ahlbum will travel to Indiana in June to receive the award.
Next year, Ahlbum will work to continue growing the theatre program and building relationships in the community.
“We are tackling a musical called the Anxiety Project as our first show next year, and it focuses on mental health awareness and treatment,” she said.
A goal will be to take this show to the One Festival, where the students hope to earn a superior and be selected for the state festival.
